DP Kindiki Unveils Plan to Hire 100,000 Teachers and Expand Universal Healthcare

Kindiki Affirms Government’s Commitment to Quality of Life Improvements Across Kenya

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to uplifting the quality of life for all Kenyans through inclusive development programs and targeted investments in counties across the country.

Speaking in Njoro during a fundraiser in support of more than 50 women and youth enterprise groups, Prof. Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza administration is implementing wide-ranging initiatives in health, education, transport, trade and industry, and rural electrification. He noted that these efforts are aimed at tackling long-standing challenges and reducing hardship, particularly in underserved rural communities.

On healthcare, the Deputy President said the government has made significant progress in streamlining the National Health Service by strengthening universal access through the Social Health Authority (SHA). He pointed out that the number of Kenyans benefiting from the program has grown from 8 million five years ago to 25 million currently. The government, he added, is working to enroll all 55 million Kenyans in the universal health coverage scheme to ensure equitable access to affordable, quality healthcare.

Prof. Kindiki urged Kenyans to register for the service, stressing that “healthy people are a fundamental asset to economic growth.” He also called for enhanced public awareness to ensure that no one is left out, noting that widespread coverage will reduce medical costs and improve productivity nationwide.

Turning to energy, Prof. Kindiki revealed that the government has allocated Ksh 2.2 billion to connect 22,000 households to the national grid under the Last Mile Connectivity Programme. He said reliable electricity supply will boost rural businesses, create jobs, and improve living conditions.

In education, the Deputy President announced that the government plans to hire at least 100,000 teachers, up from the current 76,000. This recruitment, he said, will address teacher shortages, reduce class congestion, and improve learning outcomes across the country.

He further highlighted the government’s continued investment in infrastructure, including improved road networks and modernized market facilities, to strengthen trade, enhance mobility, and increase access to services. These projects, he said, will create an enabling environment for small-scale entrepreneurs and help stimulate economic growth.

Prof. Kindiki assured the public that the Kenya Kwanza administration is fully committed to delivering on its promises, emphasizing that development must be inclusive and equitable. “No Kenyan should be left behind in our journey toward socio-economic transformation,” he stated, reiterating the government’s pledge to work tirelessly for the benefit of all citizens.
